Stubbleman is the alter ego of Belgian-British composer and producer Pascal Gabriel, a boundary-pushing artist with a decades-long career.
From a punk background, he became a key figure in the late ’80s UK Acid House/Breakbeat explosion, co-writing and producing "Theme from S'Express" and "Beat Dis" before collaborating with artists like Wire, EMF, Goldfrapp, Dido, Miss Kittin, and Kylie.
Returning to his electronic and experimental roots, he launched Stubbleman with his critically-acclaimed debut album, Mountains and Plains, which was inspired by a road trip across the U.S., crafting a cinematic ambient soundscape blending modular synthesis, found sounds, and live instrumentation.
His forthcoming second album, 1:46:43 - The Ventoux Trilogy, transforms the legendary Mont Ventoux cycling ascent into music, using real-time ride data—heart rate, speed, power, and cadence—to drive evolving modular synth sequences. Enriched with field recordings, melodies, and rhythms, the album’s 18 pieces span three movements, mirroring the mountain’s changing landscape in recurring themes and variations.
One ride. Four parameters. Eighteen compositions.
More than simply a cycling-inspired work, The Ventoux Trilogy is a meditation on endurance, solitude, and the raw beauty of nature—a sonic journey through struggle, hope, and transcendence.
