You know thatmanmonkz, even if you don't know thatmanmonkz. The Sheffield based DJ/artist/producer’s style was born out the influence of the master teachers of Detroit and 90’s boom bap. His discography includes releases on seminally acclaimed imprints such as Delusions of Grandeur, Classic/Defected, Planet E, BBE, DJ Kicks, and Music For Freaks.
Monkz is a sought-after remixer—having worked for the likes of Amp Fiddler, Folamour, and Kon. Despite his underground credentials, he caught someone’s eye, as Traxsource rated him the #10 deep house producer l in 2016/17, the year that saw the release of his debut album “Columbusing”. In late 2019 he released his second, “Non-Zero Sum Game” and followed that recently with a full production LP for Detroit songstress Nikki O. If you’ve been keeping your eyes on what goes on under the radar, you might also have noticed a few sold out disco re-edits too..
He’s also been deejaying for over 20 years, garnering critical acclaim all over the globe. thatmanmonkz also runs his own record label, the renowned Shadeleaf Music, which has seen works from the likes of DJ Nature, Waajeed, PPF, Kai Alce, and of course thatmanmonkz himself.
His work as a composer for visual media, as part of hip hop duo Madison Washington, and as producer for Pan Amsterdam has seen him garner new attention from many other genres, and he shows no signs of letting up anytime soon…
