The story of Zeromancer unavoidably starts with the end of Seigmen, the highly acclaimed Norwegian rockband. In '99 the three original Seigmen-members and the programmer, Erik Ljunggren, moved to LA for new surroundings and inspiration. Here they found guitarist Chris Schleyer.
The name Zeromancer emerged from two books on the bookshelf of songwriter Kim Ljung;  Neuromancer by William Gibson and Less than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis.
In 1999, ZMR played their debut show at The Whisky a Go Go, and recorded their first album Clone Your Lover in Los Angeles at Ocean Studio. It earned them a record deal with Warner Music Germany and the band was awarded best new act at the German Alternative Awards. This is very much the birth of ZMR. 26 years on they are true legends in their game. Their latest album Orchestra of knives (2021) shows a huge willingness to simultaneously experiment further but still look to their past.
ZMR certainly did not invent the genre of industrial rock. But surely they have put their own authentic mark on the style. Doubtless it’s all related to their songwriting-skills, mesmerizing performances, and their integrity. In a genre where the electronic aspects often seem to aim for perfection, ZMR has faith in the opposite. The human errors must be reflected in the music to give it absolute depth. The analogue imperfection is the key.
ZMR: Alex Møklebust , vox,
Kim Ljung, bass/vox, Noralf Ronthi, drums, Lorry Kristiansen, keys, Per-Olav Wiik, guitars.
